The NestLaunched November 2009
The Nest is a traditional toy and craft shop selling on an untraditional medium. The Nest previously used an open source e-commerce solution, but quickly outgrew the limitations of an 'off-the-shelf' solution. They approached us as they wanted a new brighter look and design, as well as a more functional, customised, e-commerce solution. This was our first opportunity to build an e-commerce website from scratch so we jumped at the opportunity.
Our approach to this project was to keep the design bright, yet also try keep a traditional craft-like feel. Our number one priority was to let the products be seen, and not let the design get in the way. We felt so strongly about the products being seen, that most of the aesthetic elements were subtle additions to a flexible template design.
We built a custom content management system with a custom shopping basket and utilises PayPal's payment system, for accepting payments securely online. Our custom system allows for more control on the presentation of products, allowing the administrators change to suit the market.
We designed the layout (with future customised 'versions' of the site, to reflect different seasons) and built the back-end content management/e-commerce system.
